Riccardo Tisci Givenchy Couture S/S 11

UM...Perfection? ... YES! Leave it to designer Riccardo Tisci to grace Givenchy with some of the most fantasmical, ornate pieces ever seen on this earth. The time and craftsmanship that go into these garments are without a doubt astonishing. Amazingly elaborate appliqués, layers of chiffon, delicate tulle, unexpected shocks of color, and plissé fabrics created an absolutely breathtaking effect -but hey, I guess that’s what happens when one single look takes a total of 2,000 hours of cutting and 4,000 hours of sewing (not an exaggeration). Museum worthy garments like these deserve to be regarded with utmost respect and reverence, which is exactly what happened when they were showcased at the Hotel d’Evreux in the Place Vendôme, Paris. Tisci is one designer who knows how to “wow” his audience. He continues to raise the bar when it comes to displaying his own flair for the elegant, and his Spring/Summer collection for Givenchy couture was no exception. This particular collection was inspired by Japanese robot toys, and the late, great, Kazuo Ohno – legendary Japanese Butoh dancer. Philip Treacy offered his hand in creating the dramatic millinery, which for some odd reason conjured up memories of early Power Rangers episodes? Whatever. This collection rocks my world. Go go Givenchy!
