For those who have ever pondered the impact of Greek tradition and culture as it pertains to fashion, look no further. Beyond Dress Codes is an exhibition curated by fashion historian Lydia Kamitsis. It features the work of sketch artist Gissis Papageorgiou who illustrates traditional costume and headdresses from all over Greece, as well as a gorgeous array of established Greek designers including Angelos Bratis, Dimitris Dassios, Deux Hommes, Yiorgos Eleftheriades, Ioannis Guia, Sofia Kokosalaki, Thanos Kyriakides, Mastori*Motwary, MiRo, and Orsalia Parthenis. The exhibit also surveys the bridge between traditional Greek dress and haute couture using designers such as Jean-Paul Gaultier and John Galliano as exemplary representatives.
Beyond Dress Codes opens today -Monday, 27, September, 2010 in Athens’ Hellenic American Union, and lasts until 27, October 2010.
