Haider Ackermann S/S '11 Pre Show

HAIDER ACKERMANN. This man knows how to put on a show. His Spring/Summer 2011 Pre show, which was held at the Palazzo Corsini in Florence, was in a word… magnificent. Picture it: Chandeliers from the turn of the century float in a Renaissance courtyard. Candles. Bats. Gorgeous people. The show began in complete darkness and silence. Candles were lit as the always lovely and talented Jamie Bochert opened with an astonishingly haunting musical set, including her rendition of ‘Knocking On Heaven’s Door’ among others. The collection consisted of about 14 looks, each intricately detailed, and undeniably sensuous. Languid silks draped the bodies of each of the models as they calmly walked down the runway. My hat goes off to Ackermann for making pajamas suitable for public wearing. This collection definitely mixes comfort with effortless elegance.
The show was somewhat of a landmark for Ackermann, as he typically never does pre-shows. This was also the first time Ackermann incorporated menswear into his collection. Below are some videos of the Ackermadness.
PART ONE: the designer explains the inspiration behind his collection, his “intimate” book of images, and his definition of beauty.
PART TWO: a behind the scenes look at Ackermann’s S/S 2011 Pre show.
