Einstürzende Neubauten

German band Einstürzende Neubauten is one of the greatest and most influential industrial/post-industrial bands in the world (sorry NIN). I respect them to no end and here are a few reasons why:

THEY’RE PROLIFIC: Neubauten has been at it for 31 years now, and are still going strong. They have released 11 albums, 12 singles, 4 EPs, 11 live albums, 8 collections, 8 videos, and a film (1/2 Mensch). Not to mention their Musterhaus series, a project launched in ’05 initially created as an outlet for the band’s experimental exploration and elevated creativity. And speaking of creativity...

THEY’RE CREATIVE: It’s a well-known fact that Einstürzende Neubauten make their own instruments. This is due in part to the musical masterminding of original member N.U Unruh, and newer member Rudolf Moser. Instruments such as plastic pipes, air compressors, various found objects (usually of the metal variety), as well as other man made machines and electronics all make heavy contributions to Neubauten’s sound. In addition to their sound, their live performances are legendary, and their videos are visually stunning.

THEY LIKE TO STICK IT TO THE MAN: In 2002, the band emancipated themselves from any sort of record label, relying solely on the support of their fans. This was somewhat of an experimental route for the band to take, one through which numerous records were released.

...So now you know! These dudes are nothing short of extraordinary. Above are some earlier Neubauten vids. Enjoy!
